Mini Dress & Boots

This whole blogging thing is equal parts amazing and terrifying.

The outtakes from this post show me turning bright red when my roommate & her boyfriend drove by and spotted us taking pictures. While I was embarrassed - I'd been found out! - it meant that I finally had to tell someone besides my mom & sister that I've been working on this. I've since told a few more people, and everyone has been great.. very positive and encouraging. Thank you!

My days of wearing dresses without tights are numbered now that it's almost November (!!!) but this is easily one of my favorite looks. I really really really love a mini-dress, and as someone who is hot-natured, fall is such a fun time to wear one with boots. This Vince pair (found through The Real Real), are my favorite shoes at the moment. I've only managed to wear them to work a few times, but they are getting more comfortable each time I wear them. I'd love a pair with a shorter heel for the rest of the season (like these).

Cat Makeup for Halloween

Wanna hear a cat joke? I had a feline you would say that.

As of Tuesday, I still had ZERO costume plans for Halloween tomorrow. So yesterday after work, I finally got it together and ordered some cat ears off of Amazon (two-day shipping, I adore you), picked up this fancy number from American Apparel, and decided to go all out with my makeup.

If you are in the same boat, there are step by step instructions and a trillion photos below...

Sweater & Thigh High Boots

J.Crew Sweater (on sale!) | J Brand Jeans | Comptoir des Cotonniers Boots (similar in grey here) | Clutch bought from a woman in La Paz, Bolivia | Prada Sunglasses (in black here) | Essie She's Pampered Nail Polish

I picked up this sweater at J.Crew on Saturday, and wore it all day Sunday and to work on Monday. The wool is super warm, although I wish I had bought a size down since it still looks a bit boxy.

I bought the boots during the semester I studied abroad in college. I found them at Comptoir des Cotonniers in Florence during a sale, and they were marked down from 500 euro to 85! It was still a splurge for me then, and unfortunately, they've been sitting in their dust bag for three years now because I never had a good opportunity to wear them. But with thigh high boots popping up everywhere this season, I decided to finally pull them out to pair with this sweater. I'm looking forward to wearing them even more this fall and winter.

The clutch is something I picked up while I was in Bolivia in August, and I love the bright colors. It's the perfect size for an iPhone, a credit card+ID, and a whole bar of chocolate (my favorite at the moment)... ideal for walking around the neighborhood when you don't need a full bag. Pouches like this are also great for keeping a big tote organized - I definitely need all the help I can get in that department.

Essie: She's Pampered

I've spent the last few months trying all sorts of crazy nail colors, so it feels great to go back to a classic red. Not to mention that my bestie Hillz always has her nails painted this color, so I have to copy her every once in awhile :) This photo was taken this morning, and I painted my nails on Saturday, so you can see that the durability is pretty great. I always use Orly's bottom coat & top coat, but red polish often chips easily for me. I'll definitely have this one on high rotation during the holidays, plus it would make a great stocking stuffer too. I happen to know someone who would love it.

Pink Scarf & Teal PS1

While I don't have a problem investing in beautiful, well-made items that will stand the test of time, I always prefer to buy something for a great deal. Everything I'm wearing in this post represents that philosophy.

After lusting after leather leggings on all of my favorite bloggers last fall and winter, I put them on the top of my "want" list this season. The high price tag was something I couldn't swallow, but after trying on a few pair of the much less expensive, "leather-like" options, I knew I wouldn't be satisfied until I had the real thing. Luckily, I spotted this J Brand pair on my #1 favorite place to shop: TheRealReal. TRR is a designer consignment shop where I have found so many great pieces, often in pristine condition with the tags still on! You can't beat it.

This teal PS1 was another TheRealReal find. While it was more of an investment than anything else I'm wearing, I saved up for what I considered a "major" handbag for years before making this purchase. To me, it feels like the perfect bag for a girl in her twenties: the color is bright, the leather is relaxed, and the whole bag feels luxurious. Plus, the lack of designer logos gives the bag a subtlety that makes me feel like I belong to a secret society of fashion gals and blog lovers.

While a $15 scarf is just the right price for something that may only be in style for a season or two, I plan on wearing the leather leggings & PS1 until I physically can't any longer. Mixing closet building blocks with less expensive accessories (and a manicure!) is my favorite way to get dressed in the morning.

I’ve spent the last three years obsessed with blogs of all kinds, and discussing my favorite bloggers (as if I know them personally) with anyone that will listen to me. While I desperately wanted to start my own blog on several occasions, I never allowed myself to full commit, or would get overwhelmed and filled with self-doubt before I could share it with anyone. It is difficult to open yourself up to criticism, but you should not have to apologize for what you like.

So after (over)thinking it over, and a few failed attempts, I’ve reached a place where I can truly begin. There are a couple of posts from 2012 and 2013 that I will keep on here for nostalgia’s sake, but today is the beginning date to me. My URL, has been purchased, I feel okay about a handful of outfits that I put together on a regular basis, and I am bursting with ideas for different posts and series.

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you will come back often.

Lots of love,
